ABSTRACT: Using cluster analysis, patterns of diurnal cycles were calculated based on hourly values of temperature, cloud cover, sunshine frequency, vapour pressure and relative humidity at Potsdam Station for the period June to August 1893-2000. It was shown that the large-scale climate variations of the last century are reflected in the temporal behaviour in some of these patterns. These temporal changes occur in a highly differentiated manner over the day. Additionally, relationships between the investigated parameters and precipitation and also the appearance of extremes were considered.
